Agave plants can thrive indoors with the right care! Here are some key tips:
🌞 Light: Agaves need bright, direct sunlight for at least 6 hours a day. A south- or west-facing window is ideal. If natural light is limited, supplement with a grow light.
💦 Watering: Let the soil dry out completely between waterings. Water sparingly—every 2-3 weeks in warm months and even less in winter. Overwatering can lead to root rot.
🏺 Soil & Pot: Use a well-draining cactus/succulent mix or amend potting soil with sand or perlite. A pot with drainage holes is essential.
🌡️ Temperature & Humidity: Prefers warm temperatures (65-85°F) and low humidity. Keep it away from cold drafts.
🌱 Fertilizer: Feed with a diluted cactus fertilizer once a month during the growing season (spring & summer). Skip fertilizing in fall and winter.
🪴 Repotting: Agaves grow slowly and don’t need frequent repotting—every 2-3 years or when they outgrow their pot.
⚠️ Handling: Many agave species have sharp spines, so be careful when handling. Some varieties contain skin-irritating sap.
